About this Blog

Why?

This blog is about the possibilities for using new technologies and other innovations in peacebuilding processes. It is about the possibilities and challenges, about the social impact of new technologies and the ethics involved.

As a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, remote ways of meeting and working have become more accepted throughout the world. This also led to a broader appreciation and new ideas on using these kinds of technologies for the good. Everywhere peacebuilding initiatives emerge that are investigating and trying out new scenarios for using new technologies in peacebuilding efforts.

The steps that go from introducing new technologies in dialogue and peacebuilding projects, towards a sustainable and workable social contract, are not so clear. Moreover, it presents various ethical, political as well as practical problems.

The main theme of this blog is how new technologies feed into peace processes and to what extent they contribute to sustainable structures and institutions in order to support stabilizing societies in conflict. I look at these developments in both an appreciative as well as a critical way. I look for examples, frameworks, models and theories. As such it is part of my research interest in frameworks for assessing and developing technology in peace building settings.
